Abstract <p>The first-order features of Asian Russia’s topography represent tectonic domains of different origins and backgrounds. The core of Asian Russia is the Siberian Craton that emerged in the Precambrian and remained a stable platform after that. Broad and long-living orogenic belts emerged to the west and south of it in the Paleozoic (Central Asian Orogenic Belt) and to the east in the Mesozoic to Cenozoic (Circum-Pacific Orogenic Belt). The latter continues its development at the Kuril-Kamchatka subduction zone. Cenozoic continental rifting has shaped unique landscapes of Asian Russia, the most prominent of which is Baikal Lake. Intense geodynamic processes produce strong earthquakes and volcanism that occur not only at the active subduction zone but are scattered across orogenic belts.</p>
