Geodiversity and Geomorphosites of the Baikal Rift Zone
摘要
This paper intends to specify the remarkable landscapes and landforms features of the Baikal Rift Zone with the purpose to elaborate the strategy to survey protect and employ the geosites within this huge territory. To exemplify, we have selected the areas of the Priolkhonie and Olkhon Island and Tunka Rift Valley encompassed by the Baikal Region, and hosting numerous distinguished geomorphological sites. They display significance in observation attractiveness and perceptual approach. In addition, we offer descriptions of the unique natural geological and geomorphological formations in some other parts of the Baikal Rift Zone, e.g. mini-desert “Chara sands” located in the Chara Rift Depression and “Ina Stone Garden” in the Barguzin Rift Valley.
