Three-Dimensional Model for the Deep Structure of the Pavlovsk Batholith from the Don Terrane (East-Don Orogen)

Abstract

The study of the specific character of large granitoid complexes of the continental crust is of utmost importance for the geodynamic reconstruction of its development. For the territory of the Voronezh crystalline massif, an example of this object is the Pavlovsk migmatite–granite–granosyenite complex, which is observed to a depth of 8 km, with the major volume at a depth between 1 and 6 km. The revealed morphological features of the spatial structure in the complex demonstrate the presence of lateral inhomogeneities in the distribution of the vertical thickness. The density of granitoids of different phases is close enough, which makes it impossible to identify them reliably using the model. According to the results of the obtained comprehensive model, the Pavlovsk batholite has the shape of a sill-like pluton with a series of subvertical structures, which are interpreted as potential magma conduits. Plutons of a such shape are typical of extensive settings when there is a limited dominance of the rising magma pressure over the lithostatic pressure. The obtained model of the structure of the upper crust based on the geological and geophysical data is quite compatible with the existing approaches to understanding the nature of the Pavlovsk migmatite–granite–granosyenite complex formation. The proposed model can be used in geodynamic constructions of the evolution of the Voronezh crystalline massif.
