Age-Related Methylation Changes of the KLOTHO Gene in the Cyprus Population
摘要
Aging is an inevitable and complex process associated with organ physiological dysfunction and decreased life quality. KLOTHO (KL) is identified as an anti-ageing gene, which plays an important role in developing many age-related diseases. The objective was to analyze the methylation status of the KL gene in 152 subjects by using methylation-sensitive high-resolution melting (MS-HRM). To assess age-related variations in the methylation status of the KL gene, subjects were categorized into two groups: ≤39 and ≥40 years old. A significant association between KL methylation status and age was identified (P = 0.0009). However, this study did not determine an association between KL methylation status and Body Mass Index (BMI) (P > 0.05). We demonstrated that α-KL methylation is increased with age in patients with ≥40 years.
