Sequencing of the Chloroplast Genomes of Different Forms of Triticum militinae Zhuk. et Migusch.

The tetraploid Militina wheat Triticum militinae Zhuk. et Migusch. was considered by some researchers to be a natural naked mutant of the hulled wheat T. timopheevii (Zhuk.) Zhuk. This study reports on sequencing and annotation of the chloroplast genomes of white-spiked (k-64 829) and black-spiked (k-46 007) forms of T. militinae, the sizes of which were 135 899 and 136 163 bp, respectively. Sequencing was performed on a SURFSeq sequencer (GeneMind, China), and chloroplast genomes were assembled using the NOVOWrap software program. The phylogenetic tree built based on the alignment of complete chloroplast genomes (plastomes) showed that the black-spiked form T. militinae k-46 007 was close to the Timopheevii evolutionary lineage, while the white-spiked form, k-64 829, was close to the Emmer evolutionary lineage, including the species of Triticum persicum Vav. (syn. T. carthlicum Nevski). The origin of different forms and lineages of T. militinae and their authenticity are discussed.
