The Complete Mitochondrion Genome of Ecklonia maxima

Ecklonia maxima is a type of algae widely located along the South Africa with extensive biological value. It has been used to produce alginate, animal feed, nutritional supplements, and fertilizer. Mitochondrial genome is 37 561 bp in length and consists of a circular DNA molecule, with coding genes constituting approximately 76.91% of the total length. The circular genome is composed of 66 genes, including 38 protein coding genes, 25 tRNA genes, and 3 rRNA genes. The total content of G+C is 32.57%, lower than that of A+T. The mitochondrial genome sequence has 100% total coverage with an average of 938.76× base coverage, ranging from 19× to 1910×. E. maxima formed a monophyletic clade together with Ecklonia radiata, which provide a new reference point for phylogenetic and gene function studies in the family Lessoniaceae. In addition, Atp9, nad1 and cox3 exhibit functions in oxidative phosphorylation. This contributes to our ongoing exploration of the intricacies of genes linked to functional components.
