Role of IL17 Levels and IL17 Genetic Variant as Risk Factor of Cervical Cancer: A Meta-Analysis and Trial Sequential Analysis

Abstract

Interleukin 17A is a pivotal factor in the development and progression of cervical cancer. Common genetic variants of the IL17A gene have been linked to susceptibility to cervical cancer development. However, the observations remained inconsistent, which has been attributed to the lower sample size and differential clinical categorization of patients. In order to ascertain the precise involvement of IL17 in the development of cervical cancer, we conducted a comprehensive meta-analysis of studies that had been previously published. Several literature databases were searched, including PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct. Appropriate published articles were screened and evaluated based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the necessary data were obtained. The CMA v3.3.070 package was used for all analyses. Tenreports met the inclusion criteria for this meta-analysis, including four studies on IL17A levels and seven on IL17A polymorphism (rs2275913). Patients with cervical cancer had elevated IL17A levels compared to controls (standard difference in means = 3.23, p = 0.001). A meta-analysis of IL17A demonstrated that the mutants of both polymorphisms were associated with cervical cancer susceptibility. The trial sequential analysis showed that sufficient investigations have already been conducted for IL17A levels and rs2275913 association studies. Variant of IL17A are associated with an increased risk of developing cervical cancer, and elevated IL17A levels are related to the pathogenesis of cervical cancer.
