Clone and Characterize of Terpene Synthase Gene LiLiS/LiMYS in Lily Oriental Hybrids “Sorbonne”

Lily (Lilium spp.) is a world-renowned bulbous flower with great economic and ornamental value. ‘Sorbonne’, a prominent cultivar of Oriental hybrid, is well received by public due to its elegant shape and special scent. Monoterpenoids are important components of lily’s volatile, LIS and MYS function in the upsteam of linalool and myrcene synthesis pathway, respectively. In this study, the complete cDNA of LiLiS and LiMYS was isolated and functionally characterized from ‘Sorbonne’. The qRT-PCR result indicated that LiLiS and LiMYS had temporal and tissue-specific expression pattern. To verify LiLiS and LiMYS regulate the synthesis of linalool and myrcene synthesis, the Arabidopsis thaliana transformation experiments were conducted. And the positive lines were obtained for further analysis, including qRT-PCR and scanning electron microscopy. We study the mechanism of floral scent emission in ‘Sorbonne’ and strive to provide an accessible way to breed ornamental plants with genetic modification.
