Abstract <p>The paper discusses <i>Polar Star</i>, a series of publications covering the literary legacy of the Decembrists. Based on an analysis of letters from the series’ founders—Academician M.V. Nechkina, S.V. Zhitomirskaya, and S.F. Koval—as well as a number of administrative documents and the volumes of the series themselves, this study examines key aspects of its history. It clarifies how the publication plan and the team of editors evolved, and who oversaw the work. Examples are provided of the editorial board’s intervention in the structure and even the content of some volumes, as well as its influence on the concepts of the authors of the prefaces. The publication is noted for its high level of archaeography, as well as the substance of its prefaces and commentary. The list of editors and all those involved in the publication is provided. It is concluded that the publication of the extensive memoir and epistolary legacy of the 24&#xa0;Decembrists is of significant scholarly importance; the biographical sketches presented in the prefaces are regarded as intellectual biographies.</p>
