Abstract <p>This article, using census data and current statistics, examines one of the most favorable periods in Russia’s demographic history—the second half of the 1960s and early 1970s. During this period, the demographic situation in the RSFSR and the Soviet Union as a whole stabilized: mortality rates dropped significantly, life expectancy increased significantly, and population growth was steady. In the years under review, much attention was paid to demographic policy, which was part of the general social policy, was its integral part, and at the same time solved demographic problems. However, the authors note the emergence of negative trends in the demographic and social spheres at the end of the period under review.</p>
