Consolidation Potential of Symbols of Russia’s Future in the Consciousness of Russian Youth: Instrumental Cognitivism
摘要
The objective of the work is on the basis of empirical information to present the process, by which actors integrate basic values, symbols, and meanings into the consciousness of Russian youth. The product of this process is an image-construct of Russia’s future. The study results in describing a number of symbols classified into the archetypes of “accord,” “trust,” and “pride” as the symbolic foundation for young people’s positive perception of the Russian Federation’s future image. Furthermore, empirical analysis allowed the authors to divide youth into the following clusters based on behavioral strategies: (1) representatives of illusory-optimistic groups; (2) bearers of optimistic and realistic pragmatism; (3) sympathizers of fatalistic and pessimistic strategies. Within the framework of projective cognitivism, the authors employed modern methods and technologies for working with sources, including cybermetric tools, which made it possible to account for the influence of social media streams on youth. The empirical findings can serve as hands on practices for government and administrative bodies in conducting systematic educational work among the youth in the areas of meaning making and symbolic youth policy.
