Abstract <p>The article examines the discourse of post-Soviet integration of Ukraine and highlights the reasons for the low effectiveness of Russian integration projects in relation to Kyiv until 2014. The authors conclude that, in the context of increased competition between integration projects of the US, the EU (Poland and Germany), Turkey and China, Russian integration models showed signs of being secondary in relation to the West. A model is proposed for overcoming this secondary nature, by moving away from the dual dependence of the Russian Federation itself in the value–mental and economic–pragmatic space.</p>
