摘要

Abstract

Drilling mud is a crucial component in the entire drilling operation. The study of the flow of matter, including gases, liquids, and solids, and how that behavior varies over time in reaction to stressors, is known as rheology in physics. In the drilling process, the rheology of the drilling fluid is crucial. This paper evaluates the rheological properties and filtration loss of calcium bentonite mud and investigates the potential for improvement to be used as drilling mud. Potential of hydrogen (pH), filtration losses, and rheological characteristics of the calcium and sodium bentonite muds were measured in the study. The calcium bentonite’s poor rheological qualities, high filtration losses, and thick mud cake were revealed by the results. Additionally, its pH was higher than that of sodium bentonite, indicating the need for improvement procedures to enhance its characteristics. Two distinct scenarios have been explored for enhancing the properties of calcium bentonite mud: the addition of NaoH and the addition of Na2CO3. Even though the results show that adding NaOH is more effective in enhancing the rheological properties of calcium bentonite than Na2CO3.The degree of improvement obtained with both NaoH and Na2CO3 is insufficient to qualify calcium bentonite for use as drilling mud.
