Abstract

The distribution of rare earth elements (REE) in accessory minerals and rocks of the Kola Province was studied. Perovskite and apatite are common accessory minerals for melts of the alkaline-ultramafic series. The REE content in the perovskite is an order of magnitude higher than in apatite. Therefore, perovskite is the main concentrator of REEs (particularly LREE) for the olivinite–ijolite series, which may be of particular economic interest. Apatite is a potential source of rare earth elements (especially LREE) for derivatives formed during the late stages of the evolution of silicate alkaline-ultramafic melt.
