Mechanisms of Dyslexia Development: Overview of the Hypotheses Based on the Experimental Studies
摘要
Specific reading disabilities (dyslexia) are a widespread problem: from 5 to 20% of the population in different countries suffer from this impairment according to the research. For effective planning of intervention programs for people with dyslexia, it is necessary to take into account a wide range of possible causes of impairment of complex reading skills. Around the world, experimental studies of the mechanisms of dyslexia development are actively conducted at different levels: at the level of cognitive functions, at the level of brain mechanisms, and at the genetic level. An overview of scientific hypotheses on the mechanisms of dyslexia development at the level of cognitive functions is presented in this work. The information presented in the review can be useful for defectologists, neurologists, speech therapists, neuropsychologists, and other professionals working with people with reading disorders.
