Age-Related Dynamics of Morpho-Functional Parameters in Northern Men

The purpose of this study was to determine the age features of some indicators of physiological status in northern men at present. Males aged 20 to 69 years, permanent residents of the North (63.6° N) were examined. Morpho-functional, physiometric, psychophysiological, physiological indicators, and indicators of physical health were determined by generally accepted methods. Different age groups were compared by the decades, Pearson correlation analysis (parametric method) was carried out. Most indicators reach optimal values in the first period of adulthood (20–39 years). Many functions deteriorate, and the average dynamic blood pressure increases more noticeably in the second period of adulthood (40–59 years). Accelerated involution of several physiological functions (strength indicators, static balancing, hypoxemia tolerance, psychomotor capabilities, hemodynamic indicators, and integral indicators of performance and health) is observed in old age (60 years and older) in northerners. Features of the age dynamics of the physiological status of northerners were established, consisting in increased blood pressure, reduced strength and psychomotor indicators, in a more pronounced age-related change of these functions in adult and elderly persons, as well as lung vital capacity and muscle performance. Correlation between many studied indicators and age was established. The vast majority of indicators reflect a quite high and statistically significant dependence on age. The directionality of correlations naturally reflects age-related decline in functions in periods of maturity and old age. Only body weight, body mass index, static endurance, heart rate, and Kerdo vegetative index were almost unrelated to age.
