On the Dependence of Ice Formation Process in Lake Ladoga on Air Temperature

Abstract
Remote sensing data on the distribution of ice in the water area of Lake Ladoga over the past thirty winters were used. Data of the Sortavala weather station, were used to calculate the accumulation of average daily air temperatures after a stable transition through 0°C towards negative values of the sum. A scheme of ice edge advance during lake freezing was obtained depending on the accumulated sum of average daily air temperatures.
