Abstract

The changes in the regime of the hydrochemical parameters of Lake Ladoga most closely related to the production–destruction balance are analyzed: the concentration of total and mineral phosphorus, the value of pH, and the relative oxygen content in water. The parameters obtained during the open water period in the last 20 years are considered in comparison with previous observation periods. A decrease in the average weighted concentrations of inorganic phosphorus in the lake during the open-water period is noted as a result of its almost complete consumption in the hypolimnion of the deep-water zones of the lake in summer. These changes limit the primary production of phytoplankton and are accompanied by a decrease in the average values of pH during the open-water period, which in turn indirectly indicates a shift in the production–destruction balance towards an ever greater prevalence of organic matter destruction.
