Numerical Simulation and Verification of Water and Heat Transport in the Lateral Hyporheic Zone of River-Groundwater under Water Exchange Conditions

Abstract

Refinement of the governing equations for homogeneous isotropy in variable saturated porous media based on the basic equations for the seepage and temperature fields. Combined with the water exchange in the lateral hyporheic zone, a mathematical model of water and heat transport in the saturated-unsaturated zone of the lateral hyporheic zone of river-groundwater is established. The model was solved using COMSOL software and then validated by the measured data obtained from the test site. The simulation and validation results show that the model is effective in simulating the dynamics of hydrodynamic and temperature field changes in the river-groundwater lateral hyporheic zone under the conditions of water exchange, and that the mathematical model of hydrothermal transport can provide technical support for the in-depth study of hydrothermal exchange and pollutant migration processes in the riparian zone.
