<b>Abstract</b>— <p>The study of the interaction patterns of ionic liquids with elemental sulfur is of certain practical interest, since the opening of the S<sub>8</sub> cycle is a key stage in many chemical engineering processes. However, it is associated with significant energy costs. In the paper, using 1,3-dimethylimidazolium dimethyl phosphate as an example, we examine the features of the reaction between dimethyl phosphate-containing ionic liquids and elemental sulfur in organic solvents, leading to the opening of the sulfur ring at room temperature.</p>
