Synthesis of Esters of Pentaerythritol and Isomeric Carboxylic C6 Acids

Abstract—
For the first time, tetraesters of pentaerythritol and carboxylic acids are synthesized: 2-methylpentanoic, 4-methylpentanoic, 2,2-dimethylbutanoic, and 2-ethylbutanoic acids. The main ion series are obtained from mass spectral analysis of these compounds. The viscosity indices and melting points of the obtained and purified (>99 wt %) samples are obtained. The kinetic parameters of the esterification of the indicated carboxylic acids with pentaerythritol are studied, and the rate constants for all stages of the hydroxyl group substitution process are determined. The influence of the structure of the carboxylic acid on the duration of the esterification process is shown.
