On Convergence Rates in the Birkhoff Ergodic Theorem

Basing on two approaches, we survey the results about convergence rates in the Birkhoff ErgodicTheorem. The first approach concerns almost everywhere pointwiseestimates of ergodic averages, whereas the second reliesupon the estimates of the measures of maximal deviations.
