Abstract—A mathematical model is proposed to estimate the effect of rotation of a consumable electrode on the hydrodynamics of a slag bath during electroslag remelting. The critical speed of electrode rotation is determined as a function of the electrode diameter for the transition of a laminar to turbulent flow for an ANF-6 flux. The dependence of the flux velocity in the slag bath on the speed of electrode rotation is determined. An expression is proposed to estimate the time of renewal of the slag bath. The ratio of centrifugal to electromagnetic force is estimated; it determines the liquid-slag flow pattern and the conditions under which the hydrodynamics of the slag bath is controlled by centrifugal forces.
