Texture and Anisotropy of Mechanical Properties of Al–Cu–Li Alloys

Abstract—The influence of crystallographic texture and strengthening phases on the mechanical properties of 1441, V-1461, and V-1469 Al–Cu–Li alloy sheets with brass-type {110}〈112〉 texture has been investigated. It has been shown that the calculation of Sachs orientation factors can explain a strength minimum in the direction at an angle of 45° to the rolling direction but yields overestimated and underestimated values of strength in the transverse and longitudinal directions, respectively, compared with experimental data. It has been found that the anisotropy of mechanical properties in Al–Cu–Li alloys is governed by two factors: texture, which is responsible for the minimization of parameters in the 45° direction, and the fiber effect making for a higher strength in the rolling direction.
