Structure and Deformation Behavior of a High-Entropy AlCoCrFeNiMn Alloy Ribbon

Abstract—The structure and properties of an 80-μm-thick ribbon made of high-entropy Al9.6Co12.5Cr12.2Fe39.4Ni24.3Mn2.0 alloy by ultrarapid quenching from melt have been studied. The alloy underwent ultrarapid quenching consists of bcc-Fe-based solid solution and the fcc Co0.8Cr0.8Fe0.8Mn0.8Ni0.8 phase. Under tensile loading, the deformation process becomes intermittent and stress-strain curves exhibit stress oscillations. It has been shown that strains estimated by the method of digital image correlation locally may nondestructively reach 1%, although the integral value of strain at failure does not exceed 0.5%. The deformation behavior of the thin ribbon made of high-entropy alloy has been analyzed at different structure-and-scale levels.
