Liquidus Temperature and Density of CsBr–KBr–MoBr3 Melts

Abstract—The melting of the 60CsBr–40KBr–MoBr3 (mol %) compositions is studied by synchronous thermal analysis and measuring cooling curves. The concentration dependence of the liquidus temperature of the CsBr–KBr–MoBr3 melts is determined. An increase in the MoBr3 concentration from 0 to 16 wt % is found to lead to an increase in the liquidus temperature from 841 to 951 K. An increase in the MoBr3 concentration from 2 to 16 wt % is shown to result in an increase in the relative mass loss from 3 to 13 wt %. According to X‑ray diffraction data, MoBr3 solidifies from the CsBr–KBr–MoBr3 melt in the form of an individual phase. Hydrostatic weighing is used to study the density of the 60CsBr–40KBr–MoBr3 (mol %) melt. An increase in the MoBr3 concentration from 2 to 8 wt % in the CsBr–KBr–MoBr3 melts is found to increase the density. The density of the 60CsBr–40KBr–MoBr3 (mol %) melts decreases as the temperature increases. The density of (60 mol % CsBr–40 mol % KBr)–MoBr3 (0–8 wt %) melts varies within a range of 2.69–3.20 g/cm3 in a temperature range of 871–1071 K.
