Weldability of New Aluminum–Calcium Alloys with Zinc and Magnesium during Fusion Welding

Abstract
The weldability of new aluminum–calcium alloys based on the Al–Ca–Mn system additionally alloyed with zinc and magnesium is studied. The tendency to cracking of the experimental alloys during fusion welding is estimated using fish skeleton MGTU samples. The weldability of the Al–Ca–Mn alloys is found to be at the level of AMg3 and 1915T alloys. The tendency of the alloys to form pores during fusion welding has been determined. Pore formation is shown to be efficiently eliminated by surface stripping using chemical etching and laser surface treatment. The mechanical properties of the welded joints of the alloys made by argon arc, laser, or friction stir welding are determined.
