Abstract

The specifics of the electrokinetic properties of suspensions of nano- and micro-sized Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9 (SDC) particles obtained by the laser evaporation and condensation (LEC) and solution combustion methods are presented. The influence of the surface nitro groups in the LEC nanoparticles on the stabilization of suspensions and the value of the zeta potential was revealed. The effect of the renewal of the dispersion medium on the properties of suspensions, and also of the addition of cerium nitrate on the electrokinetic properties of suspensions of nano- and microsized particles and the nature of electrophoretic deposition, was studied. The loss of stability of the LEC nanoparticle suspension was found to be irreversible. The influence of the porous nature of microsized particles on the electrophoresis process is shown.
