Abstract <p>Two sets of CrO<sub><i>x</i></sub>–SBA-15 catalysts are synthesized by the different methods, namely, coprecipitation with a support and incipient wetness impregnation, while varying the chromium content in the catalyst in a range of 3–7 wt %. The synthesized materials are studied by the nitrogen adsorption, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy methods using CD<sub>3</sub>CN as a probe molecule. In the presence of a 3 wt % Cr–SiO<sub>2</sub> catalyst synthesized by coprecipitation, a propylene selectivity of 78% at a propane conversion of 14% at 600°C is achieved.</p>
