Nature of Interaction of Some Carboxylic Acids with the Surface of Dispersed Ice from Aqueous Solutions Against the Background of KCl

Abstract—The sorption interaction of formic, acetic, monochloroacetic, and trichloroacetic acids with the surface of dispersed ice from aqueous solutions with the background electrolyte KCl is studied. The nature of sorption isotherms for all acids is identical. The integral and differential forms of the curves indicate that at low concentrations acids pass from solution into a quasi-liquid film of the ice surface in proportion to concentration. As the acid concentration increases, the solid phase of ice adjacent to the film premelts and the sorbed amount of the substance grows. Then the adsorption layer of organic molecules is formed on the surface of particles preventing further sorption of acids.
