On Phosphine-containing Gold(I) Complexes in Solution and Their Biological Application

Abstract

Some transformations involving AuCl(PPh₃) in CH₃CN/H₂O solution are considered and compared with data known for auranofin. The reaction with GSH leads to the formation of binuclear complex (GSH)[Au(PPh₃)]₂ (at C_GSH/C_Au < 0.5) or mononuclear complex Au(GSH)(PPh₃) (C_GSH/C_Au > 0.5); PPh₃ substitution is not observed. The reaction with BSA leads to Cl^– substitution. A cyclic voltammetry study showed the presence of several peaks of irreversible oxidation of AuCl(PPh₃) and complexes with GSH.
