Abstract

Based on the results of analysis of the material collected during trawl and hydrobiological surveys in the southern part of Lake Ladoga, only 10.5% of the studied whitefish Coregonus lavaretus fed during the autumn pre-spawning migrations. The food bolus was formed by 78% of relict native amphipods (Amphipoda), and to a lesser extent by larvae of chironomids (Chironomidae) and mollusks (Mollusca), 18 and 3%, respectively. A total of 22 taxa were recorded in the composition of the whitefish diet. Only a few specimens of forage organisms living on the coastal slope were found in all the gastrointestinal tracts studied. The pre-spawning migrations of the studied individuals of whitefish to smaller depths had no effect on their food spectrum. No changes were found in the food supply of whitefish after the large-scale naturalization of Baikal amphipods.
