Age, Growth, and Particular Aspects of Ice Cod Arctogadus glacialis (Gadidae) Biology in Northeast Greenland Waters
摘要
The paper presents data on age and specific rate of growth in ice cod Arctogadus glacialis (Peters, 1874) caught in August and September 2022 in coastal Northeast Greenland. As shown by the analysis of otoliths, individuals of eight age groups inhabited the study area at that time; specifically, from fingerlings to 7-year-old fish of 7.8 to 35.5 cm in size, respectively. Most ice cod was at the age of 2 years (29.2%); number of individuals aged 1, 3, and 4 years were considerably lower (17.6–19.6%); fingerlings and fish aged 5 years and older were rarely encountered (1–3%). The species matures at 3 years of age with length of females and males of 20.6 and 19.6 cm, respectively. Sex ratio changes with age from dominance of males aged 3 or 4 years to their entire absence at the age of 6 or 7 years. Additionally, the paper reports data on size structure, as well as dependence of body weight on its length and size of otoliths on fish length and age. The parameters of the Bertalanffy equation are calculated.
