Abstract

For the first time, information on the distribution and some features of the biology of the wattled eelpout Lycodes palearis in the southwestern part of the Bering Sea during the summer and autumn period is presented. This species was recorded at depths of 35–295 m at the water temperature near bottom from −0.6 to 7.3°С. Its maximum density were recorded in the western and central parts of the Olyutorsky Bay in the bathymetric range of 101–200 m. The total length of individuals in the catches varied from 12 to 48 cm. Males of L. palearis reach larger sizes than females. The maximum life expectancy of individuals of the species is estimated at 8 years. Males presumably mass mature when they reach the total body length of 36–40 cm, females, more than 30 cm, the species reproduces in the autumn-winter period.
