Genus Scopeloberyx

A diagnosis of the genus Scopeloberyx has been given. Species of the genus are divided into two groups according to the pectoventral distance (horizontally between the verticals of the lower edge of the base of the pectoral fin and the beginning of the ventral fin): S. robustus (8 species)—pectoventral distance < 5% of the standard body length and S. opisthopterus (2 species)—> 5%. A key has been compiled to identify all species, including two as yet undescribed. For each species, a detailed description has been provided, including synonyms and bibliography, diagnosis, description, comments, distribution, biology (if such data is available), information about the material studied.
