On Case of Bulk Harvesting the Shortraker Rockfish Sebastes borealis (Sebastidae) in Sea of Okhotsk off Northeastern Tip of Sakhalin Island

A case of bulk harvesting the shortraker rockfish Sebastes borealis in the water masses off the northeastern tip of the Sakhalind Island as incedental bycatch in the Greenland halibut Reinhardtius hippoglossoides fishery at the depths of between 612–670 m has been reported. The Smith’s fish-body fork length varied in the range of 34–87 cm (69.6 ± 0.3 cm, on average). The catch composition was based on the specimens of 66.1–74.0 cm in length (69.7%). The spawning site of larva occurrence is probably located northward from the Sakhalin Island.
