Discovery of Medeterites latipennis (Meunier) Male with a Key to Species of the Genus Medeterites Grichanov from Eocene Baltic Amber and Notes on Other Extinct Genera of Medeterinae (Diptera: Dolichopodidae)
摘要
A male of Medeterites latipennis from late Eocene Baltic amber is firstly described and illustrated. It differs from other extinct species of the genus Medeterites Grichanov in morphometric characters of antenna, tarsi and wing mainly, in shape of visible appendages of genitalia. A key to species of this extinct genus is proposed. The genus is placed in the extant subfamily Medeterinae and includes five recognized species, all from Baltic amber. Relationships and characters of Atlatlia Bickel, Eridanomyia Bickel, Kashubia Bickel, Medeterites, Plesiomedetera Grichanov, Salishomyia Bickel and Paleothrypticus Ngô-Muller et al. are briefly discussed. Medetera vana Meunier and Chrysotus lepidus Meunier are recombined with the genus Kashubia (comb. nov.). A key to medeterine genera from Eocene ambers is also proposed.
