The First Finds of Teeth and Placoid Scales of Orectolobids (Chondrichthyes, Orectolobiformes) in the Berriasian of Crimea

In the lower part of the “Kabanii Gully” Berriasian section in Southwestern Crimea, teeth and placoid scales of representatives of the shark order Orectolobiformes were discovered. A new species Dorsetoscyllium belbekensis sp. nov., has been recognized, based on the proportions of teeth and the presence of lateral cusplets in the lateral and posterior teeth. The morphology of the placoid scale and tooth, tentatively identified as Annea genus, is discussed. Finds of orectolobid teeth from the territory of the former Soviet Union are reviewed, as well as the taxonomic diversity of Berriasian sharks from various localities. These Crimean finds significantly expand the known distribution range of Dorsetoscyllium, ?Annea sharks and supplement the information on the Berriasian elasmobranch fauna with new forms.
