New Data on Lower Carboniferous Foraminifers of Novaya Zemlya (Russia)
摘要
The microfauna of the Lower Carboniferous Mikitov Formation from the section of the Goryakov Peninsula, located on Severny Island of the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago, is studied. This section is a parastratotype of the Mikitov Formation and is represented by an Upper Tournaisian–Lower Visean siliciclastic-carbonate complex. A foraminiferal sequence was discovered that generally corresponds to the zonation adopted in the General Stratigraphic Scale of Russia for this stratigraphic interval. The identification of these units makes it possible to correlate them with coeval deposits of nearby and distant regions. A new foraminiferal genus, Paracornuspira gen. nov., has been described and two new species of this genus: P. borealis sp. nov., and P. brunsiformis sp. nov.
