Abstract <p>Mollusks, along with other invertebrates, are increasingly of interest to virologists. However, viruses in mollusks (especially freshwater ones) remain little studied. We estimated the diversity of actively transcribing DNA viruses in Lake Baikal endemic gastropods, <i>Benedictia baicalensis</i>, using metatranscriptomic datasets. We identified 13 viral sequences (contigs) in four samples (pools) of mollusks, ten of which belonged to double-stranded DNA bacteriophages, and three sequences—to single-stranded RNA bacteriophages. The identity of the predicted viral proteins to those of known viruses was low (28.9–77.2%). Our results confirm the important role of gastropods in the circulation of viruses in Lake Baikal.</p>
