Modeling Biomechanics of the Corneal Column with Keratoconus During Implantation of Intrastromal Segments

Based on a finite element model of the cornea customized for its geometry and properties, methods are being developed to optimize the size, shape, and placement of intrastromal segments, ensuring effective correction of corneal topographic patterns in patients with keratoconus.
This task will involve proposing and testing various corneal segment implantation options based on implant position, shape, and size. Methods will be developed for identifying the parameters of these models and verifying them based on clinical diagnostics of the patient’s corneal condition before and after surgery. Methods will also be developed for predicting, using computational experiments, the biomechanical and topographic parameters and deformation behavior of the cornea after segment placement, depending on its key parameters.
