Abstract <p>The expression of interleukin-13 (IL13R) genes and receptorsplays an important role in the development of allergic asthma. Thisarticle presents the real-time PCR results of a study on the levelof <i>il13r</i> gene expression inthe trachea and bronchi of Wistar rats with ovalbumin-induced asthma.It was found that the content of IL13R mRNA increases in rats duringthe development of bronchial asthma. In bronchi containing intramuralganglia, IL13R mRNA level was higher than in bronchial preparationswithout ganglia. Sodium cromoglycate-induced stabilization of mastcell membranes reduced the synthesis of this mRNA. The effect of sodiumcromoglycate on reducing IL13R mRNA levels in different regionsof the respiratory tract is achieved at different time intervalsand depends on the presence of local neural structures. In regions whereintramural ganglia are present, the suppression of IL13R mRNA synthesisoccurs more slowly, while in regions lacking the ganglia, it isachieved faster. It is hypothesized that the system of mast cells andintramural ganglion neurons promotes an increase in <i>il13r</i> gene expression.</p>
