Abstract <p>Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive age-related neurodegenerativepathology leading to dementia. Genetic mouse models of AD have beencreated to investigate the mechanisms underlying this pathologyand to search for possible ways or its correction. Transgenic 5xFADmice carrying two human transgenes, <i>App</i> and <i>Psen1</i>, and five mutations, are apopular model to study AD. The aim of this work was to assess thematuration of neonatal reflexes and body weight gain during earlypostnatal ontogenesis of 5xFAD mice, as well as behavioral featuresof these animals at the age of three months. Wild-type (WT) miceof the same sex and age from the same litters were used as controls.The obtained results show that 5xFAD mice do not differ from theirWT siblings in body weight gain and the formation of neonatal reflexesduring the suckling period. At the age of three months, 5xFAD micerevealed sex differences in their behavior: males exhibited loweroverall locomotor activity than females and showed signs of incipientdepression-like behavior. Male 5xFAD mice had reduced anxiety levels,while females showed increased exploratory activity compared toWT siblings of the same sex. Thus, the behavioral features of 5xFADmice were characterized at the age of three months. For the firsttime, the maturation of neonatal reflexes during the suckling periodhas been studied in this transgenic model of AD.</p>
