Abstract <p>Bioinsecticides based on natural toxins found in venoms isan emerging field in biotechnology and beyond. Scorpions that huntinsects represent a promising source of bioinsecticides. Here, wedescribe OsK2, an insecticidal peptide from the venom of the CentralAsian black scorpion <i>Orthochirus scrobiculosus</i>.We present the correct amino acid sequence of OsK2 and show itspronounced activity on the voltage-gated potassium channel Shakerfrom <i>Drosophila melanogaster</i>.Being selective towards insect ion channels, OsK2 stands out asa promising scaffold for the development of bioinsecticides.</p>
