Oxygen-Dependent Aspects of Asprosin Action

Asprosin, a novel adipokine secreted mainly by white adiposetissue, regulates organismal responses to short-term fasting, initiatesglucose synthesis and/or release from the liver and thus stimulatesappetite, increases total energy reserves in adipose tissue. Determiningthe bioenergetic status of the organism, this hormone influencestissue oxygen content and, accordingly, oxygen-transporting functionof blood in the case of overweight and insulin resistance. Individualswith an increased asprosin content associated with overweight andclass 1 obesity, as well as insulin resistance, demonstrate a shiftof the oxygen–hemoglobin dissociation curve, accompanied by an increasein the blood concentration of nitrogen monoxide gasotransmitterand a decrease in hydrogen sulfide levels. Asprosin is involvedin the regulation of the gasotransmitter system and shaping themechanisms for blood oxygen transport. Asprosin contribution tothe formation oxygen supply and adaptive reserves in individualswith metabolic disorders reflects a new aspect of the mechanismof its action.
