Interaction between Endocrine and Exocrine Pancreas

The pancreas plays a key role in the endocrine system of animals,as well as in the digestion and absorption of nutrients. The exocrineand endocrine portions of the pancreas are structurally separated fromeach other, however, multiple studies suggest the anatomical andfunctional unity between them. While previously, the interactionsof these two portions received less attention, nowadays the pancreasis considered as a single organ consisting of functionally interlinkedcomponents, which coordinates endocrine and exocrine responses.The review addresses the latest data indicating the functional relationshipand reciprocal influence of the endocrine and exocrine pancreaticportions. In addition, we consider the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infectionon pancreatic function.
