Abstract

An experimental setup has been developed to optimize gas-cooling processes for thin silicon pixel large-area detectors with high spatial resolution for charged particle track registration. New technical solutions for distributing low-velocity cold gas flows directed between closely spaced cylindrical detector layers have been tested. This cooling scheme provides efficient removal of thermal power, minimizes temperature gradients, and eliminates problems of detector vibrations that may occur at higher gas flow velocities. The identified features of cooling the large-area thin silicon pixel sensors in high-energy physics experiments are discussed.
