Beam Diagnostics for the Irradiation Facility at the Hydrogen Ion Linac of the Institute for Nuclear Research

Abstract—
The irradiation facility at the INR linac of protons and negative hydrogen ions is used not only to perform radiation resistance tasks but also to study interactions of charged-particle beams with matter. A distinctive feature of the facility is the operability with particle beams in different charge states over wide ranges of beam energy and intensity. As a result, appropriate universal beam diagnostics is required for the facility. The principles of design, production, and use of its diagnostic devices for different beam types are described. The features of their operation in different irradiation modes and examples of auxiliary functions of the frontend and integrating electronics are presented.
