Impact of Cadmium Doping on the Anodic Behavior of Aluminum Alloy AlBe1 in NaCl Electrolyte: Corrosion Rate. Reduction and Potential Shifts

This study presents the findings on the anodic behavior of cadmium-doped aluminum alloy (AlBe1) in a NaCl electrolyte. The results reveal that the addition of cadmium in concentrations ranging from 0.05 to 1.0 wt % leads to a notable reduction in the rate of anodic corrosion of the original aluminum alloy (AlBe1), with an approximate decrease of 30–50%. Moreover, the research demonstrates that the incorporation of cadmium in the aluminum alloy shifts the potentials associated with free corrosion, pitting formation, and re-passivation towards positive values. These findings suggest that the proposed aluminum alloy AlBe1 compositions, containing cadmium, hold promise as anode coatings for safeguarding metal structures across diverse applications, providing effective corrosion protection.
