Abstract– <p>The effect of an electric field applied parallel to the substrate during vacuum deposition on the structure of thin films of aluminum tris(8-hydroxyquinalinate) Alq<sub>3</sub>, a popular organic emitter, was studied. Films deposited in the absence of an external field on a substrate cooled to –35°C are expected to exhibit spontaneous orientation polarization (SOP). The field effect manifests itself as the suppression of intermolecular interactions in the Alq<sub>3</sub> films that lead to either aggregation or SOP. Due to this, the films deposited in an electrical field exhibit increased specific conductivity.</p>
